Yin Yoga

This a class designed for you to find balance

  • This subtle practice aims to still both the mind and body,  and offers an opportunity for meditation as well as deep physical relaxation, working towards depth from a place of surrender.
  • The term “yin yoga” comes from the Taoist tradition.
  • Yang relates to movement, creating heat in the body.
  • Yin is about finding stillness and cooling the body.
  • And, as the theory suggests, we need both to find balance and be our most optimal selves
  • Yin targets the body’s energetic system and fascial tissue – which can often become tight.
  • In Yin Yoga we aim to release this tightness that occurs in response to postural issues and constant use.
  • The energetic system & fascial tissue are an integral part of achieving unity across body and mind.  When in harmony, we create optimal communication flow, mobility and structure throughout the body.
  • In this class we incorporate props such as bolsters and blocks are incorporating into the class to soften and deepen the relaxation of the muscles.
  • Quieting down the mind, focusing on the breath and deep restoration of the Body, Mind and Spirit is what we work towards achieving in this class.
  • In Yin yoga, sequences are a series of slow, long and luxurious holds and postures that stretch out the connective tissues and fascia in the body in hip opening asanas (poses), forward bends and restorative poses.
  • It is a practice for all level of yogis and unlike Vinyasa and other yoga styles, a Yin practice is all about deep relaxation and restoration.

The Benefits of Yin Yoga

  • Calms and balances the mind and body
  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Increases circulation
  • Improves flexibility
  • Releases fascia and improves joint mobility
  • Balances the internal organs and improves the flow of chi or prana
As one of the leading teachers in Yin yoga, Bernie Clark, noted:
“Yin yoga is not meant to be comfortable; it will take you well outside your comfort zone. Much of the benefit of the practice will come from staying in this zone of discomfort, despite the mind’s urgent pleas to leave.”
